More about Yoga with Emma Jean

Emma found the practices of yoga in her early 20s after years of “hitting the gym”, dieting, and struggling with body image as a way to make peace with herself. Initially, Emma found meditation to manage stress and anxiety before beginning a more physical yoga practice. While the physical yoga practice showed Emma expansive possibility, the whole of the yoga practice (meditation, asana, pranayama, philosophy, etc.) is what Emma is the most passionate about. While Emma’s yoga continues to evolve as she practices and studies, she is currently most called towards practicing and teaching therapeutically, and combining her mental health work with her yoga teaching. Emma believes your yoga should give you healing, balance, and growth in your life, like it has given her. In over a decade, Emma has accumulated various experiences, certifications, and degrees in the realm of health and wellness.

In 2013, Emma graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Indiana University. She also completed her Reiki Master level training with Christine Eartheart in Bloomington, IN. That same year, Emma studied Integral Yoga while residing at Yogaville, Virginia as a “Living Yoga Trainee”. In 2015, she did her first 200-hour yoga teacher training at Denver Yoga Underground with a focus on Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Trauma Sensitive Yoga, and Ayurveda. Following her training, Emma joined the Peace Corps, and taught yoga in Macedonia (in Macedonian!) from 2015-2017, while also serving as a special education teacher in a Macedonian kindergarten. Emma completed her second 200 hour in 2021, and her advanced 300-hour teacher training with Selena Garefino in 2022 with concentrations in yoga history and philosophy, yoga energetics, Tantra Yoga, Katonah Yoga, Personal Development, and Ayurveda. Emma graduated with her Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Indiana Universty in 2023. Emma is currently a student of Somatic Experiencing.

Emma is particularly passionate about providing education in her classes, mentoring other yoga teachers and keen students, teaching private therapeutic yoga classes, restorative yoga, hatha yoga, slow flow yoga, Katonah yoga inspired classes, yoga nidra, meditation, and pranayama. She enjoys teaching at events and festivals. She teaches people of all ages individually and in groups, couples, culturally diverse peoples, and LGBTQIA+ folx.

Outside of her professional work, you can find Emma working in her garden, preparing a garden meal in her kitchen, hiking, camping, kayaking, hula-hooping, playing her ukulele, reading, or snuggled up with her cats. Emma is currently learning to speak Spanish, walk on a slackline, and juggle. Emma is a a forever student and deep lover of life. Her personal life gives color to her teaching.
